How to Relieve Joint Pain

If you’re suffering from joint pain, your first step needs to be evaluating your form in the gym. Poor form can place unnecessary stress on your joints, frequently resulting in injury.

However, if your form is on point, but you’re still in pain, consider the following sources of relief:

White Peony

The peony (Paeonia lactiflora) is a herbaceous perennial flowering plant native to east Asia. The root is extracted in summer or autumn from cultivated plants that are 4-5 years old and then cleaned with water. Next, it is briefly boiled in water, dried in the sun and sliced.

In China, Korea and Japan, the dried root of the peony has been used in medicine for more than 1200 years. A broth of the root is believed to relieve joint pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. This is due to the peony’s ability to act as an antioxidant.

Turmeric

turmeric

Turmeric is a plant that grows in India and Indonesia. It is most commonly known as the main spice in curry dishes, but the root has been used to treat arthritis in both Chinese and Indian Ayurvedic medicine.

Curcumin, the key chemical in turmeric, is credited with many of its benefits. Curcumin blocks inflammatory cytokines and enzymes, and studies have found that it may also modify immune system responses.  Turmeric may relieve joint pain because curcumin is believed to decrease swelling and inflammation.

Ginger

Native to warmer parts of Asia, such as China, Japan and India, ginger is now also grown in South America, the Middle East and Africa. While popular in cuisine, it has also been used in Asian medicine for centuries.

The dried or fresh root of the ginger plant has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties similar to ibuprofen. Therefore, it’s commonly used to relieve joint pain caused by osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
