Arthritis – There are many forms of arthritis, but osteoarthritis is the most common in bodybuilders and other athletes. Sometimes called degenerative joint disease, or “wear and tear” arthritis, osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage (or cushion) between joints breaks down, leading to pain, stiffness and swelling.
Bursitis – Bursitis is inflammation of a bursa, the small fluid-filled sac that acts as a cushion between a bone and a muscle, skin or tendon. The condition commonly affects the shoulder, elbow, hip and knees.
Tendinitis – Tendinitis is inflammation of a tendon – a thick cord that attaches muscle to bone and acts as a pulley to help muscles move a joint. Often a result of sports injuries or repetitive movements, tendinitis commonly affects the shoulders, biceps, wrists, thumbs and calves.
